Guilburt
Spencer Mar Guilburt was born in Santa Monica, CA in 1983. Guilburt is a Contemporary artist whose style blends a variety of influences and media from painting, photography, to large-scale murals. Spencer works almost entirely from memory and loose digital mock-up leaving the final adaptation of the compositions to come from a less predetermined space. The paintings are as much meditations as they are thoughtful explorations on a reoccurring theme. The works often seem to unfold and define themselves fully only as they are being created. His oeuvre often appears bound purely to aesthetic appeal of line and the relationship between colors but, references to life, gesture, and movement abound. His “fire-flower” motif is a recurring homage to the natural world that has taken many forms. Repetition of the theme relaxes the mind, allowing it to go into an almost meditative state, where information can flow more freely, without the obstructions and trappings of conscious thought. In this state true insights are uncovered, and the art seems to flow from a place of “thought” to a state of “being” with the artist simply being the conduit not the creator.
Spencer's large-scale murals can be seen throughout Los Angeles, including prominent installations at the Viceroy in Santa Monica and internationally, such as the BMW Museum in Germany. His work is part of prestigious collections, including Swizz Beatz's Dean Collection and the Neiman Marcus Collection, where he also designed a holiday window display alongside artists like Jasper Johns and Andy Warhol. He has exhibited at renowned institutions like the Whitney Museum and collaborated with LACMA on an embellished clock for Christian Marclay’s "The Clock."
Spencer has completed major installations for BMW, Adidas, UCLA, and the LA Rams, and collaborated with world-renowned photographer Terry O'Neill on a unique series of works. His art has been featured on national television through ABC Sports and showcased in respected publications like W Magazine, Whitewall, Interiors Magazine, Forbes, Juxtapoz, Hypebeast, and The Hollywood Reporter.
Hilfiger was born in Manhattan, New York, in 1985.
A self-taught artist, Alexandria first started exhibiting her work in New York City, in 2004. As a multi-disciplinary artist she also wrote and produced a television show, produced a feature film, and co-founded the fashion label, NAHM. During this time Alexandria was quietly battling an undiagnosed chronic illness which ultimately forced her close her label and retreat from the public eye. During her eventual treatment and subsequent recovery, Hilfiger reverted back to her original practice of painting. This became integral to her healing process both physically, mentally and spiritually. In 2013 Hilfiger reemerged and began exhibiting work again in such places as Art Basel Miami, Spring Break New York, Robina Benson and Giorgetti.
Using abstract shapes, texture and color, her work explores questions around how one processes the complex and sometimes undefinable realm of human emotions. Taking inspiration from forms found in nature, her paintings attempt to re-contextualize ideas of “imperfection” as aspects of beauty. Hilfiger's work ranges in scale from large, acrylic on canvas paintings, with vibrant colors and broad expressive strokes, to smaller more delicate works on paper, in ink and oil pastel. Alexandria currently works and resides in Los Angeles.
